I don't usually blog about TV shows even though my DVR is full with my weekly recordings and the Roku box gets more use than my laptop many weeks. But I took a little time off last night to watch the series finale of Gossip Girl when it actually aired, instead of a recorded version three weeks after the fact. I started watching Gossip Girl after a friend brought over the entire first season on DVD and we watched it over two days and many delivery Chinese meals. Since then, I have watched the first season probably six or seven times - no joke. The second season only held my interest because I love Chuck and Blair - who doesn't? But as the gang went off to college (or didn't in some cases) I quickly lost interest. Not to mention Lily and Rufus and their story line becoming a central focus of the show. A couple of weeks ago I caught some of last seasons episodes on the Style Network and was so confused by all the new characters that I doubted it would do me any good to try and pick up and watch the last season. Despite that, when I was flipping through my cable channels last night I couldn't stop myself from clicking on Gossip Girl. And I was sooooo glad that I did. Not only did I watch the first hour with the recap of the past six years and all the amazing outfits and guest stars, but I sat glued to my television for the actual final hour of the show. Best part of the recap, aside from the clothes, was hearing Ed Westwick talk with his real accent! Gives me shivers just thinking about it.
SPOILER
Dan being gossip girl was a great ending! I loved that it was not some random person no one has ever heard of or only made a brief cameo in season four. While I'm sure if I rewatched the series Dan as gossip girl would seem a little nuts, I liked the way the show spent the episode explaining how and why he did it! Even though I am neither a Little J fan or a Vanessa fan, I liked that they both came back to make an appearance/reaction to finding out who the mysterious Gossip Girl was - although Jenny knew the whole time according to Dan.
Chuck and Blair tying the knot as police sirens wailed in the background and the boys in blue rushed to take Chuck in for questioning about Bart's death was priceless. Not that I understand how Bart was still alive since I missed all of those episodes, but that is not really important. The flashforward at end was a little strange because Chuck and Blair have a kid???? Not exactly what I would have envisioned for the two of them, at least not so soon, but at least the little guy wore a bow tie :-) Serena and Dan say I do at the very end as all of their friends and family sit on couches in a brownstone on the Upper East Side. And we learn that Nate is considering a political career - interesting? He has a pretty face, but never struck me as having much going on behind it.
All-in-all, GREAT ending to a series that was the perfect blend of drama, scandal, and amazing wardrobe choices!
