This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Jaclyn Dolamore, Jon Skovron, and Jay Clark. Dolamore is the author of Magic Under Glass and Between the Sea and Sky. Skovron is the author of Misfit and Struts and Frets. And Clark is the author of The Edumacation of Jay Baker. I have never been to a book signing or author’s panel, and it was a neat experience to hear each read from their respective books. Hearing the author’s words read in their own voice was a totally different perspective for me, and I really enjoyed it.
They each talked about their experiences with editors, cover art, and social media interaction. I found it very reassuring to know that even authors that have a traditional publishing deal have the same issues that I, as an independent author, face.
I have yet to read any of their books, but bought one from each and am eager to get the chance to read them. Misfit, by Jon Skovron, looks particularly interesting and I might cheat and add that to my books to read for June even though I didn’t technically own it when I pledged to read only books on my current shelf!
